Alligator Lizards In the Air
I bought an album online from the iTunes Music Store recently – America’s second album “Homecoming”, circa 1972. What a lot of warm memories that music brings to the surface. Mostly, I remember the summer of ’73 hanging out with my friend Rick Nieber. I had Homecoming on cassette and played it on the only audio equipment I had at the time – a Panasonic shoebox cassette recorder. Rick was into Jethro Tull. I remember hiking up to Birch Haven Lodge, a hunting lodge boarded up and unused except for a couple of weeks in the fall. We brought sleeping bags, my shoebox cassette recorder, Tull’s Aqualung and Homecoming. We snooped around the lodge for a while (a door had been left unlocked) and eventually rolled out our sleeping bags on the flat roof and had amazing, deep, insightful discussions about life, music, girls and who knows what else. Funny how a bunch of old songs can trigger memories like that.
