There Is A Treasure
Forty or so years ago, I wrote this song. It was originally more stripped down and up-tempo, but I decided to try a different approach.
Lyrics:
verse 1:
there is a treasure – and it’s yours for the asking
more precious than the gold that wastes away
outside your doorway there is one who can give you
a gift that no-one else can take away.
chorus 1:
he was forsaken by the ones he came to save
he was bruised and broken in his final hour
no thought was taken by the ones who hung him there
yet their only hope depended on His power
verse 2:
there is a master – there’s a God up in Heaven
and the time is running short – won’t you believe?
spinning faster in a spiral toward destruction
but the future’s bright for those who will receive
chorus 2:
His love has freed us from the chains that held us fast
with one sacrifice He’s paid for every man
He’s guaranteed us all who trust in him will live
and no force can shake us from the Father’s hand
repeat verse 1:
there is a treasure – and it’s yours for the asking
more precious than the gold that wastes away
outside your doorway there is one who can give you
a gift that no-one else can take away.
