Standby Jerk

Standby Jerk

Wow, this one kind of just dropped from the sky on me this morning. I happened to run across an entry in my journal from a less contented time and read “why are there so many people like that? Only concerned with themselves and only willing to let the energy flow one way…”

Lyrics:

Same old story, same old play,
Why does the energy only flow one way?
Painfully obvious, no way to win.

Pick up the check and spin it again

You give ‘em gold, they give you rust,
Am I confusing patience with trust?

Hope for a sign, wait for a spark,

Foolin’ myself for a shot in the dark

This time, your majesty, it ain’t gonna work,
I’m so over being your standby jerk.
No more waiting for your crown to turn,
You watch me crash, yeah, but I ain’t gonna burn.

Empty promises — another disguise,
I can see the wheels turn in your vacant eyes.
just the game that you play – you’re three moves ahead

Who knows the reason – maybe how you were bred?

Give ‘em an inch they’ll take you for miles

Stone cold – a heart of persuasive denials

I gave you my gold, you gave me dust,
listen carefully now – can you hear my disgust?

I’m not a planet to orbit your sun
Maybe I’m cold, but I’m free… I’m done.
you’ll find a new servant, no doubt in my mind

That’s always the way that it is with your kind

This time, your majesty, it ain’t gonna work,
I’m all done being your standby jerk.
You had your moment, you had your turn,
what’s next, your majesty?…

not my concern.
