Sometimes Alleluia

Sometimes Alleluia

Reading the bittersweet posts from various people expressing love and prayers for Chuck Girard and his family. He’s been fighting cancer and seems very close to the end of his days in this world.

As I’ve been thinking about Chuck, Love Song, and the early days of Calvary Chapel in Costa Mesa, I feel a little disappointed that I was too young for the Jesus movement of the 70’s and lived on the wrong side of the country from where it all began. But… I’m very grateful to now be a part of Calvary Sierra Vista. It’s a rare service when I don’t have one of those “huh… I never thought about that” moments. Pastor Pat is laser focused on the Word of God, and carries on the Calvary mission begun in those early days of the Jesus movement.

As much as I enjoy being part of the music at CCSV, I’m admittedly a greybeard and not sure how much longer I’ll be playing. I have many more gigs behind than ahead, so I was especially jazzed yesterday to see and hear several of the CCSV youth pick up the torch and lead the music portion of the services. Vince Gill’s lyric comes to mind:

It’s a young man’s town

Full of young man’s dreams

And all God’s children

Gotta learn to spread their wings

Chuck Girard may soon be hearing the words “well done, good and faithful servant” from his Lord, while those of us – family and friends – will be mourning his absence from us here.

God willing, we’ll ALL be together singing ‘Sometimes Alleluia’ together soon.
