Sad Song Tonight
Another new song with a lyric that started 20 years ago. I can’t seem to shake that country vibe – it’s getting to be a bad habit….
Lyrics:
Verse 1:
The sky’s too clear for a heartache tune
The sun is warm and the cholla’s in bloom
But I’ll paint the day in a greyer blue
Just to see what a lonesome song can do
Verse 2:
The Tucson sun wears a silver crown
Saguaro shadows stretch where the road runs down
The desert quiet holds a peaceful tune
But I’ll bend its light to a lonesome moon
Chorus:
nothing you say has me feeling this way
and I do think my life’s alright
I guess I just feel like writing a sad song tonight.
Bridge:
There’s no goodbye hanging in the air
No shattered dreams lying scattered there
So I’ll dress the daylight in disguise
And sing of sorrow… with borrowed eyes
Verse 3:
No farewell note on the desert wind
No broken trail I can’t walk again
But I’ll paint some shadows to play their part
And borrow a tear from someone else’s heart
Repeat chorus
Just a sad sad song…
