Jackson Falls

Jackson Falls

Sometimes in the early morning light
When dreams often seem so real
My mind wanders back, it’s only right
To judge by the way you feel.
Remember the nights by firelight
Dancing shadows on the wall
The whisper of the river in the night
Cascading beyond the falls…

Night drifts over the wooded rim,
Paints silence where laughter once played
Distant echoes faint and dim,
Guide darkness toward empty day

Still the water moves in quiet lines
Mindless, cold as stone
Carrying whispers worn by time
Into places I’ve outgrown
If only I could wake the past,
And breath return to all
Bring life again at last
To places beyond the falls

Dead leaves carpet the forest floor,
Early winter chill in the air
Shadows gather at the door
Of memories sleeping everywhere
No drifting leaf, no distant bird,
no quiet stirring in the hall
Emptiness speaks without a word
From places beyond the falls

Silence plays an empty tune
Through ghostly branches standing tall
As though the world itself communes
With all that came before the fall

Still the water moves in quiet lines
Mindless, cold as stone
Carrying whispers worn by time
Into places I’ve outgrown
If only I could wake the past,
And breath return to all
Bring life again at last
To places beyond the falls

Through the hush of constant waters
Where the drifting memories call
Time dissolves and gently alters
From places beyond the falls.
