Hard As A Rock, Cold As A Stone

Hard As A Rock, Cold As A Stone

This ones not my usual fare, but… 🙂 I wrote the chorus maybe 15 years ago but as often happens, I got stuck for verses. Well, yesterday the logjam finally broke.

I’m going for a Warren Zevon type snark over a 70’s power chord vibe.

Lyrics:

[chorus]

She’s hard as a rock and cold as a stone

She took me for granted and left me alone

Now I can’t wait ‘till my heart comes home

She’s hard as a rock and she’s cold….

As a stone.

[Verse 1]

She drinks her wine from a paper cup

Thinks love is a game that you never give up

The devil himself said he’d leave her alone

She’s colder than him and twice as well-known

[Chorus]

[Verse 2]

She’s got a blacklist longer than Rome

The sheriff won’t answer when she’s on the phone

They say the graveyard dogs don’t bark when she’s near

They just whimper and hide ‘cause they know what they hear

[Chorus]

[Verse 3]

So here’s to the woman who inspired this song

I was destined for heartbreak – shoulda known all along

Raise up a toast to the ice on her throne…

She’s hard as a rock, and cold as a stone.

[bridge]

She don’t cry, she don’t bend

She’ll sell your soul and call you ‘friend’

[Chorus]
