Happy Shiny Words
A bit of an angry, disgusted mood brought this one to life. Does anyone like politicians…? Begun in late 2007, finished this week.
Lyrics:
times are getting tough, money is tight
that ain’t nothing new, but it don’t make it alright
to wear a big greasy smile
and put the squeeze on the workin’ man
you talk about justice and diversity
you polish your agenda with hypocrisy
toss the homeless guy a quarter
from the dollar that you stole from me
who wants to start a fight that they can never win
righteous anger is just so much spit in the wind
and the glassy eyed believers
hold the keys to the kingdom now
if I want to work for nothing mister,
well I surely don’t need you around
join the line over there if your definition of fair
is to grind my soul into the ground
your happy shiny words they don’t mean nothing to me
won’t bow to your idols, don’t want your disease
I’m keeping my distance and making my way through the trees.
close your eyes, plug your ears – it just won’t go away
rolling like a thunderstorm – rain on your charade
watch another day go begging
like a drifter on the downtown train
I know you never asked me but I’ll tell you what I think
better turn the radio louder cause the TV’s on the blink
and the talking heads are talking
with their phony plastic made up smiles
who wants to take a chance if they might not come back
thinking for yourself is like a heart attack
and the rain just makes it harder
to turn your eyes from the road ahead
If I decide to live for nothing mister
I’ve got your card – I’ll give you a call
the monkey’s leaving the zoo – he’s got better things to do
than try to make sense of it all.
