ch ch ch changes... 2006
Performance, especially uptime on my site has been less than acceptable lately. My site host kindly agreed to move me to a newer, higher performance server. I also got a few software upgrades in the process. As a result, things are likely to be a bit unsettled for a bit, at least until I hunt down all the missing and broken links and get everything working again. I apologize for the nuisance - hopefully it will be short-lived. Please let me know if you run into any broken links.
Although I lost all the comments in the process, I think I finally managed to foil the guestbook spambots. (Is there anyplace safe from the spammers? Sheesh...) I tried a variety of methods but nothing seemed to work for more than a couple of weeks. Until I found the Lazarus guestbook. I'll spare you the blow by blow, but I haven't been spammed in months. Credit goes to the fine folks at carbonize.co.uk. :-)
2005
November 3 - More behind-the-curtain clean-up. Nothing y'all are likely to notice - mostly just tightening up the sprawling mess that this site has become over the last couple of years.
Added a couple of pages dealing with the growing scandal involving Sony/BMG Music's addition of software to install a rootkit (essentially, hacking software) on your computer if you try to play music CD's purchased from any of their subsidiary companies. I'm not usually an activist, but this is a wake-up call for anyone at all interested in consumer rights and privacy issues.
Unfortunately, I've had to disable my guestbook. Apparently there are people with too much time on their hands, and they've got bots patrolling the web looking for open guestbooks to spam, as if email spam wasn't annoying enough. I got tired of having to login several times a day to delete bogus entries. If I can find a way to get the broken password feature fixed, I'll re-enable the guestbook. Until then, my thanks to all those who visited and left kind comments. Please feel free to email me!
2004
August 28 - it's that time of year again - a few minor cosmetic changes. new splash page, cleaned up sidebar menus. added 'what's new' and 'pictures' jump pages. February 25 - happy belated new year. Ever wonder how songs are written? Read A Hard Day's Write by Steve Turner. It's a collection of fascinating insights into the Lennon/McCartney songs that we all know and love. When you're finished with that, come back and read The Evolution of a Song - the step by step account of my current struggles to birth a cohesive musical statement from a bubbling stew of emotions, ideas and influences. Heady stuff, no? 2003 October 14 - That I love autumn in the Berkshires is no secret. Yesterday was the perfect autumn day - peak foliage color, just barely cool enough to warrant a light jacket, not a cloud in the sky and a holiday to boot! Here are a few snapshots from my little Olympus D-100. Not as impressive as the output from my wife's 6.3 megapixel Canon, but at ~700KB, they're about 1/10th the size. June 7 - I decided the ol' web homestead was long overdue for a facelift. I hadn't made any significant visual changes since day one and decided to throw open the virtual windows and try something fresh. |
